When Art Takes Shape
Giancarlo Buratti: Sculptor in Pietrasanta
Born into art, Giancarlo Buratti has been practicing his craft for forty years. In addition to his personal works, he creates commissioned sculptures of every kind: portraits, monuments, religious sculptures, decorative pieces, faithful reproductions of historical masterpieces, etc. He has also collaborated with many renowned artists including Jeff Koons, Gina Lollobrigida, and Igor Mitoray. His favorite genre is portraiture—he has produced several hundred, including portraits of Ronald Reagan, Nicolas Sarkozy, Totò, Lamberto Vallarino Gancia, Gustav XVI of Sweden, Pope John Paul II, and Steve Jobs. He is also the creator of the two-meter-tall bronze Mermaid found in a Starbucks in Milan.

"My sculpture is deeply rooted in the late nineteenth-century verismo tradition; forty years of study have enabled me to delve deeply into the human universe."
